MASS GENERAL HOSPITAL

After several personal patient experiences at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Mr. Baker began collaborating with a group of physicians who shared his interest in openly examining whether patient experiences and outcomes had played a role in MGH’s decline in national rankings. Mr. Baker and MGH established a team of physicians and senior administrators to review the development and delivery of customized programs to ensure the patient experience and long term outcomes.

Mr. Baker partnered with MGH through a $10M gift focused on accelerating new ideas and investment in existing programs aimed at improving patient experience and outcomes and operationalize them at scale. His partnership allows MGH to focus on bolstering programs that help the most vulnerable patients, including geriatric patients, patients with cognitive challenges, and patients with serious illnesses, such as cancer, that need complex care.

MGH is committed to becoming the ideal environment to galvanize new thinking, teamwork and challenge-driven research programs consistent with patient outcomes and experience. They offer the largest hospital-based research program in the country, a national leader in patient quality and safety, innovation and expertise at designing patient-centered programs, and are committed to improving the experience and outcomes for individuals under their care.

MGH established The Baker Awards for Patient Experience and Outcomes Research. These awards raise MGH's national reputation as a leader in patient experience and outcomes. They also position MGH to attract the best and brightest junior physicians with a passion for improvement to the hospital; these young investigators will bring new ideas and fresh perspectives that will help our hospital transform patient care for years to come.
